Hormones were never a detour

Understanding hormones and many of the other endocrine pathways is a cornerstone of urology training. We deal with the adrenal gland, the parathyroid, the hypothalamus, the pituitary and the gonads. Those are all endocrine organs. Once you know that machinery, you find it works much the same way in men and in women.

What pushed me to act on it was personal. My wife went through perimenopause and we struggled to find anyone equipped to treat her well. That is a strange position to be in as a physician, watching someone you love get passed around a system you are supposed to understand.

At the same time I was seeing patient after patient with recurrent urinary infections, pain with sex, incontinence and other symptoms of menopause. They were getting the same answer as my wife was getting. “Nothing is wrong with you.” Or, worse, that “hormones cause cancer,” which was the reflex across medicine for most of two decades and rested on a misreading of a single study.

Both were happening in front of me at once, so about twenty years ago, it stopped being someone else’s specialty. I did not leave urology for hormones. The work I was already doing led straight there.

“I don’t want to lose the part of medicine that first drew me to it: knowing my patients, working with them directly and seeing their lives change.”

Where I am today

Chief Medical Officer

I serve as Chief Medical Officer of Options Medical Weight Loss, helping shape clinical strategy and safe, evidence-based metabolic care at a national level.

Back to direct care

National work can influence hundreds of thousands of patients. It does not replace sitting across from one person, treating them, and watching their life improve. That is why I continue seeing patients in Utah through Peri Health & Hormones.

Why Utah

After about twenty six years practicing in Arizona, I moved to Utah in 2024 to be closer to my children and grandchildren. Family was the reason. The move also opened the door to a new chapter of direct patient care.

Outside the office

Husband, father and grandfather. Golf, sports and travel, mostly with family attached.

Healthy aging isn’t only about adding years.
It’s about staying healthy enough to enjoy them.

The dr spent a good amount of time with me. I felt like i was in very very good hands, as i journey thru this chronic uti battle. My attitude is better, about my journey with my bladder health. I feel very very blessed
