UroLift – BPH Relief

What is BPH?

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is a condition characterized by the enlargement of the prostate as men age. The symptoms of BPH are found in more than 7 in 10 of men in their 60s, making it a very common condition among the male senior population. Although BPH is a non-life-threatening condition and not associated with prostate cancer, it can significantly impact a man’s quality of life. Our UroLift doctors in Glendale, AZ can provide Urolift treatment for BPH.

The prostate is a male reproductive gland about the size of a walnut that produces fluid for semen. The prostate surrounds the urethra, which is the tube that carries urine from the bladder out of the body.

The enlargement of the prostate causes it to push against and block the urethra, resulting in very uncomfortable symptoms that include:

  • Slow or weak urinary stream
  • Unusually frequent need to urinate day and night
  • Delay or difficulty in starting urination
  • The feeling of not being able to completely empty your bladder
  • Interrupted urinary stream that stops and starts
  • The feeling of urgently needing to urinate

How the UroLift works

UroLift doctors perform the UroLift System treatment by installing very small implants that serve to keep the lobes of the prostate apart. This relives compression applied to the urethra. The procedure enables the normal flow of urine once again. UroLift treatment for BPH is done as an out-patient at our facility in Glendale, AZ. Usually the patient will be released to go home the same day and with no catheter.
